U.S. neutrality played a big role in how the U.S. and president Wilson decided to go to war. The United States had originally claimed neutrality but German leaders saw the United States as an enemy supplying Great Britain and the allies with everything from food to weapons. This lead to German U-boats using unrestricted submarine warfare to sink ships coming to Europe from America. The united states warned Germany even signing the Sussex pledge to not fire on ships without warning. But after these terms were violated several more times the U.S. declared war.
