The Great Gatsby quotes used:
“
It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into
it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out
with every bright feather that drifted his way. No Amount of fire or
freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.”(pg.95-96)pg
151 “she was feeling the pressure of the world outside, and she wanted
to see him and feel his presence beside her” skip lines “ Through this
twilight universe Daisy began to move again with the season; suddenly
she was again keeping half a dozen dates a day with half a dozen men”
skip again “ That force took shape in the middle of spring with the
arrival of Tom Buchanan” --“I
don’t think she ever loved him,” (Pg 152)-- Gatsby is trying to justify
to himself trying to win Daisy back by saying that she never loved him
at all. He is telling himself these things so it is ok for him to steal
Daisy from Tom. In the song it says for lack of better words “ forget
that man that you love so bad”. Again in the song the man is trying to
justify his actions by telling the women to just leave him.--
“...Daisy began to move again with the season; suddenly she was again
keeping half a dozen dates a day with half a dozen men, and drowsing
asleep at dawn...” -- At this point in the book it is talking about how
Daisy was just seeing random men because she was lonely and desperate.
This is a time that she could have been with Gatsby and not wasting her
time with random guys. I believe that Gatsby would think that she should
have been with him because he believes that he is better suited for her
than anyone else. In the song the man says exactly that to the women
when he says “ I’m just saying you could do better” (Pg 151)--
“Of course she might have loved him just for a minute, when they were
first married-- and loved me more even then, do you see?” (Pg
152)--Gatsby thinks that Daisy never loved Tom and still does not love
him. It is apparent that Gatsby thinks he made a great impression on
Daisy’s life. In the song the man thinks the same thing when he says “I
know you still think about about the times we had”. Both Gatsby and
Drake believe that their female counterparts think about the
relationship they had together and all the good times they had. --
“...he knew that he had lost that part of it, the freshest and the
best, forever” -- The quote in the book is saying that Gatsby realized
that he had lost the one girl that he would truly be happy with and that
he is in love with. This is almost identical to the song when Drake
says “The woman that I would try, is happy with a good guy”. Both of
them have come to the realization that they have lost the best thing
they ever had. (Pg 153)
