Mighty Plain to See

Migrant_workers__camp__outskirts_of_marysville__california__dorthea_lange__1935-500

"Now as I look around, it's mighty plain to see
This world is such a great and funny place to be;
Oh, the gamblin' man is rich an' the workin' man is poor,
And I ain't got no home in this world anymore."

Throughout the entire novel, the Joads exhibit the ultimate story of loss and struggle. Steinbeck's writing puts the family in the position to experience all sorts of loss in a variety of forms.  However, despite all of these losses, it's clear that their spirit has not diminished and they remain a close-knit family.
