Author Explanation

It was on a train ride, coming home from the National Writing Project Annual Meeting in New York City, that I pulled out my laptop and started to write short narratives that I later learned are called Quickfiction or Flashfiction. There are other names, too, but I like Quickfiction.
It is all about catching a moment, or a character, in a small frame and trying to bring the reader beyond that frame into a story that may not even be the one being told. This short fiction strives to do that and I am wondering if the use of a hypertextual space will allow some more freedom and movement among the stories and characters.
It occurred to me as I was putting this project together that these stories were forming some sort of collective kaleidoscope of my mind. These characters, to some degree, are me. Or parts of me. The hypertext allows me to bring them together under one roof, and connect them all together in a way that regular text did not quite allow.
You may notice that I tried to categorize the stories along a spectrum of themes and the stories are color-coded along these lines. I also have grouped the stories according to narrative device (first person/second person/third person).
And I have added podcast readings of the stories and a photo from Creative Commons on Flickr.
Thank you for reading my stories.
