Luo and the Narrator

Friendship

Luo and the Narrator go through a lot together within this first section. They are brought upon the mountain Phoenix of the Sky for reeducation. It seems as thought they will be spending the rest of their life with each other. They have a mutual relationship due to the fact that they spend almost ever second of everyday together. Throughout their time on the mountain so far they have had many adventures. From hauling the crap up the mountain side to the point where it was dripping down their back, to them changing the time on the alarm clock to get a few more or less hours of sleep, they have a odd but close relationship with each other that many people would yearn to have with their friends.

High_mountain_range
The high mountain of Phoenix of the Sky is a place where Chairman Mao sent the youth of China in the book to be reeducated in the fields and coal mines of the local villages.  This is almost exactly what reeducation was like and many of the kids eventually died because of the amount of work that they had to do and the poor living conditions unwillingly pushed upon them.  This can only make you wonder what will happen to Luo and the narrator in the story.
