The Narrator 5

To me i believe that this section really showed us the integrity the narrator has as a person. When Luo goes to visit his mother it is the narrator whom he trusts to watch the chinese seamstress. Despite his love for her he doesnt show her that he loves her and stays faithful to their friendship. Even after he is nearly killed by a pack of angry boys, he still continues to watch over the seamstress. The next time he goes to visit her she tells him that she is pregnant, it is here that really defines his character by the way he deals with this situation.  He tells no one about her pregnancy because she could go to jail, so the narrator must go into Yong Jing by himself and visit the hospital.  He is there for three days before he finally meets the gynecologist.  Since abortion is illegal the narrator must strike up a deal with this man by offering him two of the writings of Balzac.  The seamstress ends up having the operation performed and after they don't speak of it again.
At the end of the book the narrator is heart broken when he finds news that the seamstress has decided to leave the mountain.  She has gone to the city. Because of the narrator and Luo reading her all of those stories, it was her in fact who was re-educated and realized all that she was missing out on.
