When Luo and the narrator came to the village, they brought along an
alarm clock with them. This was the first alarm clock that that any of the villagers had seen, having to time their days by the sunrise and sundown before. Now, with the appearance of the alarm clock, the village headman would pace around until the clock sounded, and then wake all of the peasants. However, one day Luo moved the
clock hands back by one hour and everyone got to sleep in instead of going to work.
