We are introduced to the actual geography of the re-education camp that
the protagonists were sent to. It is situated on the top of a mountain
called "
Phoenix of the Sky," Which features a precipice that instills
fear in the main characters, particularly because at the end of the
ridge (Which Luo and the narrator must cross to read to the Little
Seamstress) is a red-beaked raven, which seems to have an appointment
to
see Luo everyday when he crosses the ridge. It becomes a symbol of
doom, especially to the narrator. The raven contributes to the
narrator's semi-prophetic nightmare after he fails to cross the ridge
with Luo, despite Luo being able to cross it, even with his
fear of
heights.http://images.orkut.com/orkut/albums3/ATgAAAC8KalAWQEj2zoBiyhCfW7eFsBs08AHy0-VRz7DH9OfBWAIhFiTXJ4LgQ30Hyd1lxtZ-dKNw4r44MDcCmxJf3x7AJtU9VBv-Sre9KlL1Nk7cwCY3j5JGSQZYg.jpg
